Monday, February 27 : Antarctica Final Take.
Online entry 02/28/2012 - 17:56
Our voyage from New Zealand to Pierre I Island, Antarctica, and Cape Horn lasted two months. That is a long time to sail through hostile waters in total autonomy, and we prepared for it meticulously. The Fleur Australe was designed and built for this type of journey. We owe our success to every aspect of the design, construction, and preparation of our boat.

Saturday, February 25 : Puerto Williams
Online entry 02/26/2012 - 17:29

3:00 in the morning: Philou has been tinkering in the engine room for a good hour now. A few bolts on the propeller shaft seem to have come loose. 6:00 in the morning: Cape Horn, grey, black as the sky, black as the sea, with galloping white horses. Furious seas, terrifying cape. It’s wild, wonderful, epic! Here it is, right before us, exactly as we imagined it!

Yesterday, 19:00: After a fiery sunset, we enter perilous Morton Strait between Snow and Livingston islands, a narrow channel strewn with rocks that we sail through as night falls. Before us, the night sky is lit by Orion and Sirius, constellations forgotten for some time.

Online entry 02/23/2012 - 19:19
September 1578 : After sailing through the Magellan Strait from the Atlantic to the Pacific on the Golden Hind, Francis Drake was caught in a storm and driven far to the south. His nephew, Francis Fletcher, described it as being blown off course toward the extremes of the Earth… “with no main or island to be seen to the southwards, but that the Atlantic Ocean and the South Sea meet in a most large and free scope.
