The Fleur Australe has reached the little port at Piriapolis, Uruguay, a small coastal town a few kilometers from Punta Del Este and 60 km from Montevideo. It has been hauled out for a good rest after our long expedition through the southern seas.

Our voyage from New Zealand to Pierre I Island, Antarctica, and Cape Horn lasted two months. That is a long time to sail through hostile waters in total autonomy, and we prepared for it meticulously. The Fleur Australe was designed and built for this type of journey. We owe our success to every aspect of the design, construction, and preparation of our boat.

Ushuaia is a city of 70,000 nestled at the foot of a snow-covered mountain range. Its various elevations afford magnificent views of Beagle Canal. This is the southernmost port in the world of any significant size. Cruise ships bound for Antarctica anchor here. Some big fishing boats are moored alongside the big wharf at the commercial port, along with a container ship that has come to fill its coffers at this booming city
